The Fall Classic
Now is the time to say goodbye to the baseball season — what a season. The Yankees turned out to be the best team, while the Mets were the one of the worst. Eric Wedge of the Cleveland Indians and Cecil Cooper of the Houston Astros were shown the door as managers. Also two GMs were fired: JP Ricciardi of the Toronto Blue Jays and Kevin Towers of the San Diego Padres. One has to wonder if Mets GM Omar Minaya will be joining them? So off to fall. The cold weather, basketball, football and hockey. The Mets have the whole off-season to turn things around. The Yankees have it all. And I will miss baseball. “Baseball is the only place in life where a sacrifice is really appreciated.” Until then, see ya at The Fall Classic.
Happy 4th of July
Happy 4th to all and what a great day to attend a ball game — especially in New York. A lot of good games going on and the New York weather is finally beautiful.
The Girardi Watch
The chants have begun. The media is starting also. It has come to the point, that Joe Girardi’s job maybe in danger. The New York Daily News back headline reads: “Torre We Want You Back!” The Yankees this season are 0-5 against the Boston Red Sox and have looked horrible, with A-Rod and his book destined back this week or next.
Dugout Notes & Quotes
The series of all series is this weekend with the Yankees taking on the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Interesting story in Long Island Newsday that Joe Girardi is fighting to keep his job, while Terry Francona doesn’t have to worry about his job. On my radio show Baseball Talk I stated that Girardi has until the middle of the season and then he’s out. I stand by my statement.
Home Run Heaven
So far, 21 home runs have been hit out of the new Yankee Stadium. Thanks to Long Island Newsday, they put together a list of stadiums that are the best and worse for hitting the long ball.

- Great American Ball Park (Reds) 2.64 a game.

No Joy in the Bronx
Maybe the Yankees should have stayed in “The House that Ruth Built” across the street? This, by all means, might be Ruth’s jinx on the Yankees moving to a new stadium. Maybe the Yankees should’ve kept the other “Joe” at the helm? The new “Joe” I give until the middle of the season, then he’s bye-bye.
The Yankees were horrible yesterday as the Cleveland Indians sent the balls flying all over in a 22-4 all-out-blitz. I would hold my head down in disgust. With their star-talent and payroll, they better turn it around fast. Right now it’s not looking good.

Happy Birthday MLBlogs
I’ve been here since 2005 and it has been great. From covering the first WBC to appearing on “Under the Lights” it has been the toast of the town. From the “Red Sox Chick” to my radio co-host Carl “The Cabbie” to “A” to “The Baseball Collector” it was, and still is, our little “Dead Poets Society.” I read “A’s” column this morning, who writes “Dispatches from Red Sox Teen Nation” soon to be just “Red Sox Nation,” about the memories.
MLBlogs is the home of baseball, America’s Pastime, and the home of many. I started at MLBlogs to promote my book and, in turn, Baseball Talk radio was born, appearances on MLB Radio, writing assignments, interview for stories, etc. It didn’t hurt my career, but promote it. For that, I’m so grateful. I’ll be here until they take me out in a wheelchair. Mark, Captain-my-Captain, thank you!!!!!

Around the League & Antarctica
Finally,
the weather seems to be getting nicer, the sun is shining and Spring
Training is in full swing. This is what baseball fans wait for each
season, the start of summer. All the hoopla surrounding A-Rod, should fade away if he just tells the truth. But, who knows what A-Rod has up his sleeve? Do you believe A-Rod?
Johnny Damon and Xavier Nady
are in a financial pinch, after seeing their assets frozen by
investigators who are investigating the Robert Allen Stanford Company.
Anybody have a few bucks to offer?
Tom Glavine signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Atlanta Braves on Friday. Looking on the West Coast, second-baseman Orlando Hudson signed a $3.4 million, one-year contract with the Dodgers. He’s expected to fill the void Jeff Kent left announcing his retirement this past winter. Also, David Ortiz is still complaining about soreness in his left shoulder and sat out of the Red Sox workout session.

The Coolest Race
All interested runners, take a look at John Hanc’s new book: “The Coolest Race on Earth: Mud, Madmen, Glaciers and Grannies at the Antarctica Marathon.” I’ve
known John for the last 20-years from the New York Institute of
Technology and writing. A great scribe, who authored seven previous
books, John’s byline can be seen in Newsday, The New York Times, Runner’s World, etc. By the way, he did complete 24 marathons.

I’m pretty much done on the whole A-Rod saga and probably won’t mention anymore here or at my other writing space “The Journal News” (Lohud.com). Too much and then Miguel Tejada pleading guilty that he lied to Congress. What’s next?
