PSAL at Yankee Stadium

Went to the New York City PSAL Baseball Championships at Yankee Stadium last Tuesday and  what a treat it was. My girlfriend works for the Board of Education and the tickets were free. Though I’ll never be able to get the seats I had at a regular Yankees’ game, I sat in section 119 right behind the Legends seating at home plate. What a view!

Time, I wish I had it. 
Besides writing all over the place, I’m also working on a new baseball book which hopefully will be out by the World Series. Write, sleep, eat, write!!! I’ll keep everyone up-to-date on the progress of the book. I also have a couple of book reviews to do, so I’ll be posting  some of them real soon!

Tough Times for Baseball

The Yankees and Mets have new stadiums with plenty of seating. The problem: a lot of empty seats, especially at Yankee Stadium. Tough times with the economy is also hitting baseball hard. It baffles me when I’m watching the YES Network and see all those empty seats around home plate.


With that, the Yankees decided to slash ticket prices. Here’s what type of seating you’ll get for the buck:

First-row Legends suite.
#2,500 lowered to $1,250.

First-row seats.
$1,000 lowered to $650.

First-row season tickets.
Same price: $2,500.

Other seating around the stadium will stay the same.  Also the Yankees have the highest payroll ($201.5 million) and the highest average ticket price ($72.97).

MLB financial information

Highest payroll: $201.5 million (Yankees).
Lowest payroll: $36.8 million (Marlins).
Highest salary: $33 million (A-Rod, Yankees).
Lowest salary: $400,000 (Many MLB players).
Average salary: $3.26 million (Around MLB).
Highest average ticket price: $72.97 (Yankees).
Lowest average ticket price: $14.31 (Diamonbacks).

Just think for $10 and free parking you can go see the Long Island Ducks play. Now, in these tough economic times, that’s a bargain.

Home Run Heaven

So far, 21 home runs have been hit out of the new Yankee Stadium. Thanks to Long Island Newsday, they put together a list of stadiums that are the best and worse for hitting the long ball. 


Here’s a breakdown of the stadiums:

Home Run Friendly Parks

  • U.S. Cellular Field (White Sox) 2.76 a game.
  • Great American Ball Park (Reds) 2.64 a game.
  • Oriole Park at Camden Yards (Orioles) 2.55 a game.
  • Rangers Ballpark in Arlington (Rangers) 2.52 a game.
  • Comerica Park (Tigers) 2.49 a game.

Home Run Unfriendly Parks

  • Dodger Stadium (Dodgers) 1.48 a game.
  • AT&T Park (Giants) 1.48 a game.
  • Kauffman Stadium (Royals) 1.52 a game.
  • Rogers Centre (Blue Jays) 1.54 a game.
  • McAfee Coliseum (A’s) 1.54 a game.

Countdown

Spring is around the corner, so they say.

Yesterday, New York looked more like winter with the snow falling and that’s not a good sign for baseball. The weather looks much better today and soon the season will begin. Here’s a countdown:
